Understanding of the origin and the management of the genetic information

As part of our project on the fundamental question "Can mathematics help to explain the spatial structure and the functionality of proteins?" we organized a two days workshop at the University of Applied Sciences Mannheim from June 15th to June 16th 2015. A group of scientists from four different countries combined their expertises in different scientific disciplines from Biology, Physics, Statistics, (Bio-) Computer Sciences and Mathematics in order to get a better insight into the structure, methodology and functionality of the genetic information. The topics ranged from Swinger DNA and RNA, circular codes and their properties, and optimization processes in the generation of DNA sequences to the genetic information as a dynamic system.

The workshop has been very successful initiating further collaborations in the future. Some of the participants moved on to the 2nd International Conference in Code Biology.
